The Great Western Trail traverses 4,455 miles through Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. It incorporates stunning desert and canyon landscapes, plateaus, woodlands, dense forests and alpine meadows, lands that encompass the most diverse vegetation, topography and wildlife in the western United States. The best way to experience Utah is by climbing the jagged bluffs, or just walking through it. Utah has some very remote areas that are accessible only to serious backpackers, but routes to other stunningly beautiful scenes are merely "pleasant walks." You'll find that once you get off the beaten path on foot, or even on horseback, Utah's mountains and deserts will "open up" for you in unexpected ways.
